I Didn't Know CHS Was a Thing — Why I Started This Site

My journey to creating CHS Awareness, born from personal experience with Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome and the need for a supportive, judgment-free community.

The first time I realized something was really wrong, I was standing in a hot shower for the third hour in a row. My skin was pruned. The water was running cold. But the nausea? Still brutal. That was the moment I thought, “Okay… this isn’t normal.”

I searched, like most people do, with some combination of: “weed makes me throw up,” “cannabis nausea,” or the classic: “hot showers stop vomiting.” And eventually, I found it: Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome.

The name sounded fake. The explanations were scattered. The support communities? Half of them were shouting, “YOU HAVE TO QUIT NOW,” while the other half insisted CHS wasn’t even real. Honestly, the whole thing felt like a minefield.

No middle ground. No nuance. No real help.

So that’s why I created CHS Awareness.

I created this site because people deserve to:

  • Know what CHS actually is
  • Get help without being judged
  • Hear from others who’ve been through it
  • And most importantly? Not feel alone
  • Find practical ways to manage symptoms, not just ultimatums

I’m not a doctor. I’m not here to shame you. I’m just a real person who’s dealt with CHS, still use cannabis (in moderation), and want to make sure nobody else has to Google this condition in a panic at 4 a.m. while trying not to puke. If you’ve been there, you know how scary that moment can be.

I’ve read the horror stories. I’ve felt the fear that it might never stop. I know what it’s like to feel like you’re broken—and to not even know what’s wrong in the first place. That level of confusion and isolation can eat at you.

CHS is real. And it sucks. But you’re not crazy, you’re not weak, and you’re definitely not alone.

If you’re here because you’re not sure what’s happening with your body… If you’re scared, overwhelmed, or straight-up exhausted… If hot showers are starting to feel like your only relief…

You’re in the right place.

Start with CHS 101 to understand what’s going on. Check out real community stories to hear what it’s like for others. Or take our Do I Have CHS? self-check to see if the symptoms line up with your experience.

And hey — even if you’re just here to lurk quietly, that’s okay too.

You don’t have to figure this out alone. I’m here with you.
